Our Story

The congregations of First United Methodist Church and Zion United Methodist Church share a rich history of serving the people of Hampshire through the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. United in faith and purpose, we choose to become one strong, loving church community. Though we will be a newly merged congregation, we will continue to sustain the memories, relationships, and community presence that have shaped our appointed mission fields in Hampshire. Guided by the Holy Spirit and grounded in prayerful guidance and understanding, we commit to carrying forward the legacy of the United Methodist witness—“Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.”—in this community and beyond. Together, we will continue our shared mission to serve neighbors near and far with Christ’s love.

Naming of Merged Church

After prayerful discernment and input from both congregations, the name, Hampshire United Methodist Church, was chosen for the merged church. This name was selected because it fits our new identity, connects with our mission and vision, and is welcoming and meaningful to the broader community. As Hampshire UMC, we commit to building a strong, unified church focused on making and growing disciples of Christ.

Vision Statement

Hampshire UMC is a community of faith, hope, and love, demonstrated through our shared worship, missional outreach, fellowship, service to the community, both local and global. We seek to embody God’s love, serve our neighbors, and build God’s kingdom together. We envision a church where God’s grace transforms lives, all are welcomed, and our combined gifts empower us to make a greater impact than we could alone.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to live out our faith as we encourage others to become disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
